This testing is intended for patients suspected of having prion diseases (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease) for whom a diagnostic lumbar puncture for the examination of 14-3-3 protein and tau is indicated. The study is open to all neurological departments in the Czech Republic. The costs for the examination of samples are covered by grant funding.

Our laboratory participated in an interlaboratory evaluation using the Ring Trial method for the RT-QuIC diagnostic test, and achieved an excellent result with 100% concordance with the reference data. This outcome confirms the high accuracy, reliability, and professional standard of our diagnostic procedures.

Mgr. Soňa Baranová, Ph.D., was awarded 3rd place in the Sanofi Prize in Pharmacy 2025 competition, organized by the French Embassy. She received the award for her achievements in studying new possibilities for intravital diagnostics of neurodegenerative diseases. Congratulations!

Representatives of the Prion Laboratory attended a prestigious conference focused on connecting topics of prion diseases and other neurodegenerative conditions, which took place in the American city of Bethesda.

Under the patronage of the Czech Neurological Society and the Neurological Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University and the University Hospital St. Anne, the annual conference of the National Institute for Neurological Research was held at the Hotel Pyramida in Prague. This platform connects excellent neurological teams from leading scientific institutions in the Czech Republic.

The Portuguese university city of Faro has been chosen as the location for the next PRION conference, with the participation of over three hundred experts from around the world.
